Choose air for cargo that is light relative to its value, must arrive fast, or spoils — electronics, spare parts, pharma, samples, fashion drops and perishables. On many lanes, avoiding a stockout or freeing cash tied up in transit pays for the premium.
Air is usually 4–8× the price of sea per kilogram, so it rarely suits heavy, bulky or low-value cargo.
How air freight is priced
Air is billed on chargeable weight — the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight (length × width × height in cm ÷ 6000). Low-density cargo is penalised, so bulky-but-light shipments get expensive quickly.
